However, in some cases, certain dyes or finishes applied to the fibers may react adversely. Many sizing and dyes are sensitive to water and consequently, cannot be washed. Some water spot or stain readily upon contact with moisture. It is important that the care label on the article be followed.
Home Stain Removal Tips Because of the extreme sensitivity of many of these dyes and sizings to moisture, it is not recommended that you attempt any stain removal using water unless you have pretested an unexposed seam. Wet the fabric and blot it with a white cloth. Rubbing while wet during home spotting can distort the yarns causing light areas. Allow it to air dry to determine if the dye and sizing are disturbed. Removal of heavy perspiration, or a concentrated food or beverage stain, could be virtually impossible for you to successfully do. Protect From Perspiration Perspiration contains salts that can damage fabrics, especially silk. Perspiration is acid and turns alkaline on exposure to the atmosphere. This can cause actual color changes on the fabric and disintegrate and weaken silk. Have perspiration stains removed as soon as possible to avoid permanent staining. Underarm shield may be helpful. |
