Feature – Focus on Bedding

Most bedspreads and comforters should be drycleaned or professionally laundered, especially if they are tailored or quilted. Since manufacturers are not required to permanently attach care instructions, please save the care instructions which may be on the packaging or a temporary label, and bring them in with your cleaning.  By cleaning all matching or coordinating items at the same time, any color changes, even if small, will be uniform.

When Purchasing A Down Comforter...

...check that the comforter is well quilted.  The stitches should run both vertically and horizontally with the lines no larger than 10 inches apart.
...check the overall strength of the stitching.  If the stitches are loose, the down feathers can shift.
...check to make sure that the channels or pockets are stitched closed to also prevent shifting.
...check for lots of feathers.  The thicker the filling, the more provided insulation.

Ask the Experts

Q. I have a beautiful bedspread that has different types of cloth on it. Some velvet type, some silk flowers and some what appears to be cotton, I think. Anyway, it says to have washed in a large capacity professional laundry. It is also puffy and a deep burgundy color. I love it and it was rather expensive. Do you clean something like that?

A. We do have a large capacity professional wet cleaning facility. However, given the variety of fabrics and colors, especially deep burgundy, I have some concern about colors bleeding and possible damage to delicate silk areas. I suggest that you take the spread to our plant, located at 23459 Lorain in North Olmsted and ask to speak to the plant manager, Deb. It might be wise to set up an appointment with her - call 777-1400.
Thank you for the question and if I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

And Before I Close.....

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely, in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming - WOW! WHAT A RIDE!"
