Do you know when Mother's Day became a National Holiday??

According to the web site www.holidays.net:

In 1907 Ana Jarvis, from Philadelphia, began a campaign to establish a national Mother's Day. Ms. Jarvis persuaded her mother's church in Grafton, West Virginia to celebrate Mother's Day on the second anniversary of her mother's death, the 2nd Sunday of May. By the next year Mother's Day was also celebrated in Philadelphia.
M
s. Jarvis and her supporters began to write to ministers, businessmen, and politicians in their quest to establish a national Mother's Day. It was successful as by 1911 Mother's Day was celebrated in almost every state. President Woodrow Wilson, in 1914, made the official announcement proclaiming Mother's Day as a national holiday that was to be held each year on the 2nd Sunday of May.

Coats and Jackets

(I know my Preview from last month said I’d talk about shirts, but the Boss wanted to have a coat and jacket cleaning sale this month, so I thought I’d be smart and talk about our sale instead.)

Now that winter is finally over, it’s time to get all the fall and winter coats and jackets cleaned.  You don’t want those dirty, salt-stained articles hanging around ‘till the snow flies again.  Bring them in now, before stains have a chance to bake in the summer heat.  That way, next fall when you need them, all your jackets and coats will be cleaned, pressed and ready to go.  Bring in 3 jackets and/or coats, and we’ll clean the least expensive one of the three for FREE!  Storage service, furs, leathers and suedes not included in this special.  Offer valid for the month of May, 2005.

And Before I Close.....

I've been reading "The Complete Life's Little Instruction Book" by H. Jackson Brown. I'll be putting some of the "Instructions" in upcoming newsletters in the left column, but, in honor of Mother's Day, I'll start here with some things that your mother might have said:

"Never underestimate your power to change yourself"

"Never underestimate your power to change others"

"Do it right the first time"

"Do more than is expected"

"Call your mother"

Remember our coat and jacket cleaning sale running during the month of May.
