Happy
Father's Day

Father and Son

Do you know when Father's Day became a Holiday?? According to the web site www.holidays.net:

Mrs. John B. Dodd, of Washington, first proposed the idea of a "father's day" in 1909. Mrs. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart. William Smart, a Civil War veteran, was widowed when his wife (Mrs. Dodd's mother) died in childbirth with their sixth child. Mr. Smart was left to raise the newborn and his other five children by himself on a rural farm in eastern Washington state. It was after Mrs. Dodd became an adult that she realized the strength and selflessness her father had shown in raising his children as a single parent.
The first Father's Day was observed on June 19, 1910 in Spokane Washington. At about the same time in various towns and cities across America other people were beginning to celebrate a "father's day." In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a national Father's Day. Finally in 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day.
Father's Day has become a day to not only honor your father, but all men who act as a father figure. Stepfathers, uncles, grandfathers, and adult male friends are all honored on Father's Day.

Casual Shirts
Stack of Casual Shirts

Are you looking for the perfect casual shirt for your father/grandfather/husband/uncle/special male?  Here's some tips on finding it:

  • Pick out a color that compliments his favorite casual pants.

  • Look for evenly stitched hems

  • Make sure buttons are secure

  • The collar stitching should feel firm

  • The feel of the fabric should feel soft to the touch

  • Give the shirt with a hug, and he'll love it

Summertime, and the livin' is easy... Looking casual never looked so good.  There's nothing like professionally cleaned laundry pressed to perfection.  With that in mind, our June special will be about casual wear.  Bring in 3 golf/polo type shirts and one pair of casual pants, and we'll clean the casual pants for free!  This special applies to men's and women's fashions.  Storage, furs, leathers and suedes are excluded.

Feature – Focus on IFI

From the www.IFI.org website: "The International Fabricare Institute (IFI) has been the premier international trade association for garment care professionals since 1883. With a membership of nearly 8,000 drycleaners, wetcleaners, launderers, apparel & textile manufacturers, suppliers and other practitioners in the fabricare industry, IFI is the world's leading professional garment care organization. IFI's balanced representation of cleaning entities, both large and small, makes it the industry voice."

If an impartial party is needed to determine the cause when a garment does not adhere to the FTC labeling on recommended care, IFI laboratories are used.  Clothing manufacturers will test their garments with IFI for cleaning processes, strengths, etc. Member drycleaners may send a damaged garment in for analysis, also.

Ask the Experts

Q.  What do I do about 'ring around the collar'?

A.  The rings are the result of body oils and could become permanently set if the garment is dried with heat.  Frequent cleaning of the shirts/blouses/casual shirts will help prevent rings from forming and will also prolong the life of the garment.

Q.   What caused the mysterious color loss to appear on my golf shirt?

A.   Examination usually shows the discolorations are more prominent on the outside surface of the fabric and areas more exposed to sun and moisture during wear.  Some fabric dyes are more sensitive to sunlight than others.  Unfortunately, all fabric dyes will eventually fade or change color from progressive conditions of wear in the sun. However, if a garment designed for outdoor wear fades objectionably in a relatively short period of time during normal use, then the manufacturer can be held responsible for a poor dye choice.  Otherwise, this type of fading over a prolonged period of wear and sun exposure is to be expected.

And Before I Close.....

Success

To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better - whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.  This is the meaning of success.

Ralph Waldo Emerson
