Feature – Focus on FUN

Besides the world famous Cedar Point, west of Sandusky has lots to offer for summer fun.  All the following activities are within 15 minutes west of the Cedar Point exit.

The lighthouse at Marblehead has tours to the top during the summer months.  It is the oldest lighthouse in continuous operation on the Great Lakes.  There's a picnic area with beautiful views of the Lake Erie Islands.

bullet

History you say?  Drive on over to the Confederate Cemetery located on Johnson's Island.  There you will find grave markers of both Union and Confederate Officers.

bullet

Island hopping.  From the Marblehead/Port Clinton area, you can catch a ferry to take you to Put In Bay (South Bass Island), Kelley's, or Middle Bass Islands.  See links in the side bar for more information.

bullet

More History?  Perry's Monument, on South Bass Island, offers spectacular views of the surrounding waters and islands.  There is a visitor's area that gives video details of Commander Oliver Hazard Perry's fight on Lake Erie during the war of 1812.

Shopping and dining abound in the area.  Downtown Marblehead is home to the Ben Richmond Galleries and various touristy shops.  Besides the downtown area of Port Clinton, there is a new area, Harbor Light Landing, across from the Ottawa Visitor's Center on the Route 53 exit of Interstate 2.  Dining areas include both national fare and local flavors.

bullet

Kid friendly?  There's Monsoon Lagoon (outdoor waterpark), African Safari (outdoor zoo), miniature golf, and I'm sure more stuff I haven't found yet.

bullet

Fishing, swimming, sunbathing, and just plain relaxing can be found everywhere around.  Enjoy!

Ask the Experts

Q.  Summertime means picnics. Picnics mean stains.  Someone told me that mustard stains can't be removed.  Is this true?

A.  Mustard stains are one of the more difficult stains to remove.  It's both an oily stain and the yellow pigment colors the area it contacts. Fortunately, many times the stain can be completely removed.  It is important that it be properly processed in a specific order to maximize its removal.  Our staff has been trained on removal of mustard stains.  But - age of stain, heat, garment material, etc can make removal impossible.  The sooner you bring it in, the easier mustard stains are to remove, sometimes.

And Before I Close.....

From the "Life's Little Instructions" book:

When on vacation or a family holiday don’t be too concerned about the cost.  This is not a time to count pennies; it’s a time to make memories.

and

Don’t open credit card bills on the weekend.

Thanks for reading.
