Focus on All Dressed Up
The holidays are upon us! Now's the time to try on all your special occasion clothing. Here are some easy-to-implement tips for storing and making the best use of all your special occasion clothes:
No matter the season, the key to dressing well is not necessarily having a closet full of clothes. It's more about knowing how to dress your wardrobe basics up and down in a way that is appropriate and makes you feel confident no matter where you go. Ask the ExpertsQ. When I left voting last month, I put my "I Voted" sticker on my suede coat. What a mistake! (the sticker, not the voting). Now the sticky residue is left. And "Hello - My Name Is..." sticker season is coming up this month. What do I do??? A. We cannot offer a fool-proof home remedy for this situation. Denatured alcohol would dry the suede skin, any kind of oil or grease based product would leave a dark stain. Besides, most of the problem is that w=hen the sticker is pulled off the jacket. the suede nap, which is the roughed-up surface of the inside of a piece of soft skin, is pulled off with the sticker. There is no remedy for that - the nap is gone forever! Then, because the skins are usually dyed a color other than natural pig or cow, (whatever that looks like!?), you have the color loss issue that can be caused by any solvent. Even professional leather specialists have difficulty successfully removing those nasty labels and restoring color. I would only recommend two things: 1. if somebody comes at your suede or leather, (or silk) jacket or blouse with one of the labels, run the other way; 2. If you are unlucky enough to get one stuck on your clothing, bring it immediately to a leather or us, your clothing professional.
