Storage Tip:

For temporary clothing storage, use your suitcase!  Just place the garments inside clean pillowcases, then, if you need the suitcase, the clothing is easy to remove!

Storage

Winter garments should be professionally cleaned before being stored for the hot summer months. Stains from food and beverages might age, weaken fabrics, and could attract insects. Improper storage of your garments can lead to damaged clothing.  Store items in a dark, dry area.  Dampness can develop due to temperature changes.  Mildew can appear in damp conditions where there is no air flow.  Sunlight, and even artificial light can lead to yellowing of white articles and fading of other garments.  Use fabric garment bags to store clothes - never plastic.  Plastic prevents air from circulating and may allow moisture to collect.  Be sure to hang the garments properly.  Fold sweaters and all knits over the bar of a pant hanger for short term storage.

Don't want to be bothered with all these do's and don'ts???? Our Storage Service can give winter articles the cleaning and protection they require, and we can have them ready the first sign of frost.  Just bring in everything to one of our 4 neighborhood locations and ask about our storage service.  On the delivery service?  No problem - just ask your route driver about this service and have a worry free summer.

Ask the Experts

Q. A white sweater I left outside to dry turned yellow on the side facing the sun. What happened?

A.  Many of today's bright white garments have been treated with optical brighteners.  These are usually fluorescent dyes.  Sunlight, chlorine bleach, and other whitening agents break the brighteners down and can make them turn yellow.  In this instance, the side of the sweater facing the sun has yellowed.

With new fabrics and dyes out today, it is important to carefully follow a garment's care instructions.  Dry a white garment in the shade or indoors to prevent discoloration or damage to an optical brightener.

Tax Tip

Filing individual income taxes in the State of Ohio can be challenging.  Remember to try your Federal and State taxes both ways - Married Filing Jointly and Married Filing Separately.  Sometimes you can save money on State taxes by filing Separately. Federal and State must be filed the same way.  And some items/deductions/credits are only available if you file jointly - for example dependent care expenses, Hope credit for education, and rental property losses.
